What is a boil?
Jumbo Shrimp, spicy andouille sausage, red bliss potatoes, corn on the cob and sweet Vidalia onions are layered, seasoned ( with our own special blend) to perfection and expertly cooked together. Served with our homemade cocktail sauce the Outer Banks Boil Company has been dubbed the "Best Pot on the Beach". We pride ourselves on providing quality, fresh and when available, local ingredients. Our spicy andouille sausage is shipped up from Louisiana (for that true low-country boil taste), Want to take it up a notch? You can add seafood such as snow crab legs, clams, mussels and lobster tails!

You Steam (takeout)
Our BEST POT TO-GO provides you with the opportunity to experience our acclaimed Coastal Low Country Boil without the full-service catering. Succulent Jumbo Shrimp, spicy andouille sausage, fresh sweet corn, buttery red bliss potatoes, all layered, seasoned to perfection and ready to steam. Snow crab? Lobster Tails? Clams? Mussels? Yes Please!!!!!

So easy! Just add liquid (water, beer, white wine) and place on your stovetop and let the magic happen. That's it! Nothing complicated about it, just steam, serve and enjoy "the Best Pot on the Beach"! Oh, and by the way cleanup's a breeze!

An Alternative Dining Experience

Outer Banks Boil Company Brings the Restaurant Experience to You

Matt Khouri grew up vacationing in Corolla with his parents and two brothers. With three young boys, going out to eat during vacation was never an appealing option for the Khouris. Instead, they opted for doing their own low country boils on the beach. It was simple and tasty, and Khouri's parents could spend the time enjoying each other's company on the beach, rather than chasing their kids around restaurants crowded with tourists.

This family tradition inspired Khouri's senior project at UNC Wilmington: a business concept for bringing done-for-you seafood boils to families on vacation-no prep work, cooking or cleanup required. The school project didn't exactly win any awards-Khouri spent more time surfing than studying-but it was enough to get him started. He launched the Outer Banks Boil Company out of his Corolla apartment in 2012.

"The vision was to mitigate the hassles of dining out and to bring the restaurant experience to folks at their vacation homes," Khouri says.
What began with just a few catering gigs grew into a full-fledged business, which moved out of Khouri's apartment and into its first brick and mortar location in 2016. Customers were loving having their beach boils brought to them, cooked on site and cleaned up, so they could enjoy a stress-free dining experience.

Khouri soon added a scaled-down version that was still simple but more nimble: the Best Pot To Go. Customers could order their pot, pick it up from the location and bring it home. From there, they just need to add water, beer or wine to the pot and let it steam for 30-45 minutes.

After Khouri added takeout to the catering-only model, the business exploded. In 2017, a second Outer Banks Boil Company location opened up in Carolina Beach. The next year was Ocean City, Maryland, and the year after was Kitty Hawk. In 2019, the company began franchising nationally. The Charlottesville, Virginia location opened last year, and this year franchises have opened in Virginia Beach and St. Petersburg, Florida.

"We see it as the way of the future for dining, pandemic or not," Khouri says. "Of course people will always go out to eat, but what we offer folks is an alternative dining experience. We're not just creating a meal, but also a memory for our customers."

Khouri's secret to success is keeping it simple. All of the signature seafood boils are made with the standard base of potatoes, corn on the cob, andouille sausage, sweet vidalia onions and shrimp. From there, customers can choose to add on other seafood like clams, mussels, scallops, snow crab legs and lobster tails. The produce and seafood are fresh and locally sourced whenever possible.

"The best part about what we do is getting to see those families who return year after year. We've watched people's kids grow up," Khouri says. "Outer Banks Boil Company is a great way for friends and families to not just enjoy an amazing seafood feast, but really focus on the quality time spent together."
