In 1994 Tina Vann was the first to open a nail salon on The Outer Banks. Now her manicure and pedicure business, still located in Kitty Hawk, has grown into a full service salon.

Her newly renovated shop features a lovely Mediterranean décor, with antique reproduction furniture and 15 stations offering nail and pedicure services, including French, Sculpture, Gelish/Shellac, fill-ins and repairs, and Nail Art as well. Also offered are packages that include a whirlpool spa and pedicure.

Along with a complete hair treatment - cut and style, color, perm or updo - you might choose to treat yourself to a classic or mini facial and relaxing full Swedish or therapeutic massage. Or you can schedule a shorter hand, face and feet massage session, enough to bring you back to life after a long week.

Additionally, Bellalago offers Mystic Spray tanning and mega beds, with no required memberships fees. And the spa also boasts the “best eyelash extensions in the OBX.”

You’ll find all these services available at this one location, and some of the spa’s stylists also cater to bridal parties on-site. Be sure to call ahead for massage and facial appointments and pricing. Other services are available by appointment, although walk-ins are accepted based on availability. You’ll find Top Nails Bellalago Salon about a mile south of the Wright Brothers Memorial Bridge in the Shoreside Center near Walmart.

Sandy Run Park

Sandy Run Park leads its visitors through the heart of Kitty Hawk Woods Coastal Preserve, one of the largest maritime forests remaining in North Carolina. Completed in two phases, the park now encompasses 1600 acres of marshland, waterways and maritime forest. The park features a wooden boardwalk, two gazebos, a fishing and many more amenities for the enjoyment of the area's natural beauty and wildlife. On a stroll through the park you will likely run into many of the area's indigenous creatures and plants.Just after entering the park, and next to the ample parking area you’ll find a covered picnic pavilion, a putting green, cookout grills and a basketball half court. Below the pavilion is a canoe and kayak access deck. Beyond this recreation and picnic area is a half-mile loop, mostly boardwalk, that will take you on a scenic and educational tour of a large section of the Preserve, where wildlife and plants are identified by plaques placed along the route. At the first gazebo stop is another kayak and canoe access where you’re sure to see many yellow-bellied slider turtles swimming all around and an Osprey family nesting above. Other creatures you may get a glimpse of include deer, otter, egrets, raccoons and even a nutria. Also along the boardwalk you’ll find an observation deck and a pier for fishing (license required). The fishing pond is stocked with several varieties of fish, including brim and bass..Sandy Run Park is open from sunrise to sunset. Although the cost is free, the natural serenity and beauty it offers is priceless.

Established in 1948 by Walter and Stelle Gray, Gray’s began as a single store on the beach road in Nags Head, a land mark that has been beautifully transformed into Seagreen Art Gallery. Visitors to the original Gray’s may remember that the family home was located above the store and that Walter Gray had a passion for Big Band music that was often playing on the store speakers, giving shoppers a little swing in their step.

Modern-day Gray’s is still family owned and operated by their children Ronnie and Julie Gray, who carry on a legacy of superior customer service and traditional values. Ronnie’s wife Susan is also an important part of the business. “It really was always a family operating as a business rather than a business being run by a family,” explains Ronnie Gray. “When our visitors come in, they are greeted by a warm hello and a ‘Welcome to Gray’s.’ We try to welcome them as if they’re entering our own home”
