About this Property
- Sleeps 8

- Condo
- Approximately 1500 square feet
This unique 24-acre resort property located right on the edge of the Town of Duck, NC, sits between the Ocean and the Sound, and offers access to both. This is arguably one of the best locations in the Outer Banks for convenience and walking / cycling proximity to multiple activities and dining options.
THE SPACE
From your unit you can walk to the Beach, Outdoor pool area, and the Sound. Being on the outskirts of the Town of Duck, you are just a few mins. drive from shopping or dining along the 1-mile boardwalk located along the Sound. Some people can walk / bicycle this distance, but that depends on the family. In the evenings try not to miss some of the spectacular sunsets over the Sound.
This is a very cavernous 2BR/2.5BA lock-off unit at approx. 1,500+ sq ft combined. So plenty of space for your entire family or group. This unit is rated to sleep eight persons (8).
The A side – 1BR/1.5BA: King Size bed, Full Kitchen with Stove, Oven, Fridge, Dishwasher, Microwave, Coffee Maker, Toaster, Blender, etc. Sit up bar / 3 stools, Dining Table / 6 chairs, Living Room area with Loveseat and Queen Sleeper couch, and outdoor Deck with table and chairs.
The B side – 1BR/1BA: King Size bed, Partial Kitchen with Sink, Microwave, Mini Fridge, Coffee Maker, etc. Living Room area with Queen Sleeper couch, Dining table with 4 chairs, outdoor Deck with table and chairs.
There is a Washer / Dryer in the entry area shared only by the Guests in this specific A and B unit lock-off.
GARDEN / SOUND VIEW CATEGORY:
Garden View Category: This unit is located in the 500 Building (see property map in the photos section), nearer to the Sound side. This is a 1st floor unit, so very few steps.
There is no view of the ocean from this unit, and the view type category is considered “Garden View.” Of the 115 total units at this resort, roughly 75% of them are considered "Garden View," which can also include a view of the grounds, other buildings, or the parking areas. Once nice additional with this specific unit is that there is a nice view of the Sound from the enormous outdoor deck on the A side.
It is possible to walk to the Resort’s private Beach access, but since this is a sizable 24+acre property that stretches from Sound to the Ocean, it can be a longer walk to the beach from certain sections of the resort versus other areas.
If you have a lot of beach gear, or modest kids, it might not be practical to walk to the beach from this unit in the summer heat (between 1/8 mile to 1/4 mile depending on unit location). Your best option might be to drive to the parking area right near the Outdoor Pool and Beach access. This private parking area is reserved for Resort guests where you can conveniently drop off your family and gear, or even park in the spaces supplied if one is available.
STAIRS / ACCESSIBILITY:
Most properties in OBX have a certain number of stairs, so that buildings are elevated and protected in case of potential flooding that could be caused by hurricanes or major storms.
Almost all the units at this resort have a certain number of stairs leading to the Front Door of the unit. Some have interior stairs to a 2nd level, or depending on the specific unit configuration, as few stairs up or down to one of the bedrooms inside the unit. The number of stairs varies depending on the specific unit configuration, and whether the unit is considered first floor, second floor, or third floor.
BIS-Duck Resort will provide assistance carrying your baggage to your unit if you would like some help.
For this specific unit:
Exterior Stairs to Front Door – 7 steps
Interior Stairs to 2nd level – 5 to 7 steps
UNIT INTERIORS:
This property was originally constructed in the late 1980's and early 1990's. Recently a $8+ Million dollar remodel project was started, and expected to be finished in phases thru 2023/2024.
Before the renovation started, most of the unit interiors were roomy and comfortable but very dated.
Please note this specific unit in the 500 Building section has been partially refreshed. This unit has received new Flooring throughout, new furnishings in the Living Room and bedrooms, new window coverings, freshly painted in all rooms, and the Kitchen has been refreshed (although countertops remain the same).
However, until I am able to take photos of the newly updated interior, I am leaving the old photos in the ad. At a very minimum the older photos should give you an idea of the layout. I have added photo(s) at the end of the interior photos that was taken inside this type of unit. It shows the new floor, furnishings, and freshly painted interiors.
The benefits offered by this resort are the overall amenities, including one of the biggest outdoor pool areas on OBX. Next to the pool area there is an onsite Sea Glass Snack Shack serving stuff like burgers and hot dogs, beverages, and water ice.
This property is definitely one of the most unique on OBX, with direct access to the both the Beach and the Sound, and in very close proximity to the many stores and eateries in the Town of Duck. You also benefit from these spacious units being priced lower than comparable options of the same size in the area.
Many families savor their annual vacations at this property, however if you are a traveler that requires more opulent accommodations, this may not be the right choice for you, and you might want to consider one of the more expensive listings on Vacation Rental By Owner.
I am not trying to sound negative, because personally we appreciate this property, I just want to make sure your expectations match reality. So if you have any specific questions on this please don't hesitate to ask.
GUEST ACCESS
Your unit is private, but since this is a Resort property, Conveniences will be shared with other guests (Pools, Beach, Outdoor Games, etc).
OTHER THINGS TO NOTE
- Primary Guest checking in must be at least 21 years of age with a valid ID and credit card for security deposit. If a security deposit is required, it will be returned to you after Check Out if you have not made any charges to your room.
- Barrier Island Station – Duck is professionally managed and operated by Vacation Resorts International (VRI). The Front Desk is staffed for Check-In, Check-Out, and is available for any questions, issues, or need for assistance during your stay.
- Check In time is 4:00pm and check out time is 10:00am. Please check with the resort Front Desk for any possibility of earlier unit availability and / or early use of the resort amenities during check-in days.
- Late Check In: The Front Desk / Office is open from 8am to 7pm. If you arrive after those hours you can go to the Security office and get access to your unit. Then the following morning you will need to go to the office by 11am to get officially signed in and receive your parking passes, information, etc.
- Two Free parking passes are supplied with this unit, which you will receive from the Front Desk at Check In. If you need parking for an additional car you can arrange this directly with the Front Desk.
- Linens linens, including blankets, sheets, and pillows are supplied. However, if have you have any favorites blankets or pillows, or if you sleep better using a certain type of pillow, it would be good to bring your own.
- Please especially take note of the detail above about bed coverings. BIS-Duck provides Blankets but does NOT provide the heavier, bulkier Comforters that you may have on your bed at home. The Blankets on the beds should be fine for most families, but you could bring an additional Blanket or Comforter if you have any concerns about that.
- If you plan on using the Sleeper couches during your stay, I definitely recommend bringing your own sheets, pillows, and blankets, maybe even a bed pad for the Sleeper couch specifically, which can be turned into a very comfortable additional bed.
- Bath and Hand towels are supplied for you and will be inside your unit when you arrive.
- There is no daily housekeeping included. However your unit does have it's own Washer / Dryer in the Foyer area that is for your use only. If additional housekeeping is desired during your stay it is available for an additional fee scheduled directly with the resort Front Desk.
- Each Unit will receive a "Starter Package" at Check In. Your unit will have basic supplies like toilet paper, paper towels, detergent, etc to get you thru the first day or two of your stay. However it is highly recommended to bring additional PAPER products (toilet paper, paper towels, paper plates, etc) and your own CLEANING products (detergents, cleaners, hand sanitizer, disinfectant wipes, etc). Due to the circumstances this year you may find that local stores don't have the full inventory of supplies you need, or the specific brands you prefer to use. I recommend you definitely be prepared for this by bringing your own supplies in these categories based on what you feel you will need for the week.
- Pool / Beach towels are not included. Each family should bring their own pool / beach towels
- You should bring your own beach chairs / beach blankets / umbrellas / equipment you want to use on the beach. If you don’t bring your own stuff, you are able to rent beach chairs / umbrellas on the beach out in front of the facility.
- The new H2OBX Waterpark newly constructed in Powell's Point is only about 15 miles away
- If you or any members of your family enjoy bicycle riding, I strongly recommend taking your own bicycles (if you have the means to do so). Bikes are a great way to move around the resort, and also ride into the Town of Duck. Bicycle units in Duck are available if you don't bring your own. Remember to take your bicycle locks so you can lock up your bicycles at the bicycle rack each nighttime.
- If you are interested in fishing while on vacation, there is Surf fishing out in front of the resort on the beach, or pier fishing from the pier.
- Animals are not allowed anywhere on or in the resort property.

Getting the best Kitty Hawk vacation rental experience:
Getting the most from your rental home budget:
- Booking in Spring or Fall is our best tip for saving money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Kitty Hawk vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer their guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guides have money saving offers on local accommodations, restaurants and tours.
How to pick the perfect rental in the Kitty Hawk area:
- Choose dates and max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. BIS-Duck Resort - 2BR/2.5BA - Great Pool and Beach has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is almost always accessible online. If they are not listed, call the host before you reserve the rental. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- If there's a particular Kitty Hawk attraction you are crazy about, keep an eye out for properties that are either near by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- Some rentals allow pets, and others do not. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
More tips for your visit:
- Be sure you get the property manager's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home.
- To make sure that damages are not attributed to your family's stay, inspect the rental for any problem areas upon your arrival. Call the rental manager immediately to report any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually an excellent resource to find the best local beaches and restaurants.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can typically help. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are away, just like you would at home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Leave feedback! Property managers rely on great feedback to propel more bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your experience find their best rental home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
