About this Property
- Sleeps 8
- 3 Bedrooms
- 2 Bathrooms
- Condo
This unique 24-acre resort property located right on the edge of the Town of Duck, NC, sits between the Ocean and the Sound, and offers access to both. This is arguably one of the best locations in the Outer Banks for convenience and walking / cycling proximity to multiple activities and dining options.
THE SPACE
From your unit you can walk to the Beach, Outdoor pool area, and the Sound. Being on the outskirts of the Town of Duck, you are just a few mins. drive from shopping or dining along the 1-mile boardwalk located along the Sound. Some people can walk / bicycle this distance, but that depends on the family. In the evenings try not to miss some of the spectacular sunsets over the Sound.
This is a two level 3BR/2BA unit located in the 100 Building. One of the finest features of this specific unit is the amount of space it provides for the entire family, both indoors and outdoors on the 2 decks, including a huge deck off the Living Room with impressive vistas of Currituck Sound and the afternoon sunsets.
1st Level - Full Kitchen with Stove, Oven, Fridge, Dishwasher, Microwave, Coffee Maker, Toaster, Blender, etc. Sit up bar / 3 stools, Dining Table / 6 chairs, Enormous Family room with Loveseat and Sleeper couch, Fireplace, Full Bathroom w/shower, Grand deck w / view of Currituck Sound. There is another smaller deck outside the entry door. On this level you will find a cavernous Bedroom with a Queen bed.
2nd Level - 2 Bedrooms - Master bedroom with King Bed and TV, 3rd bedroom with 2 Twin beds. There is a Bathroom on this level with Tub / Shower combo.
This 3BR unit at roughly 1,350sq ft and is rated to sleep eight (8) to ten (10) persons. There is a Washer / Dryer inside your unit.
SOUND VIEW CATEGORY:
While the resort itself is Beachfront this specific unit is located in the 100 Building (see property map in the photos section) and is closer to the Sound than the Beach.
From your unit you have one very sizable deck, with room for the entire family, and with a great view of Currituck Sound. You can savor watching the Sunsets over Currituck Sound every afternoon. Great outdoor space available with this unit.
It is possible to walk to the Resort’s private Beach access, but since this is a enormous 24+acre property that stretches from Sound to the Ocean, it can be a longer walk to the beach from certain sections of the resort versus other areas.
If you have a lot of beach gear, or modest kids, it might not be practical to walk to the beach from this unit in the summer heat (between 1/8 mile to 1/4 mile depending on unit location). Your best option might be to drive to the parking area right near the Outdoor Pool and Beach access. This private parking area is reserved for Resort guests where you can conveniently drop off your family and gear, or even park in the spaces supplied if one is available.
STAIRS / ACCESSIBILITY:
Most properties in OBX have a certain number of stairs, so that buildings are elevated and protected in case of potential flooding that could be caused by hurricanes or major storms.
Almost all the units at this resort have a certain number of stairs leading to the Front Door of the unit. Some have interior stairs to a 2nd level, or depending on the specific unit configuration, as few stairs up or down to one of the bedrooms inside the unit. The number of stairs varies depending on the specific unit configuration, and whether the unit is considered first floor, second floor, or third floor. Typically the higher you go the better your view is from the outdoor decks and windows.
BIS-Duck Resort will provide assistance carrying your bags / baggage to your unit if you would like some help.
For this specific unit:
Exterior Stairs to Front Door – 40 steps
Interior Stairs to 2nd level – 14 steps
UNIT INTERIORS:
This property was originally constructed in the late 1980's and early 1990's. Recently a $8+ Million dollar remodel project was started, and expected to be finished in phases thru 2022/2023.
Until the entire renovation is finished, resulting in every unit interior being remodeled, you will find most unit interiors are roomy and comfortable but very dated. So while personally I would describe this overall property as very laid back, casual, and comfortable, it is important to note that these units definitely have more of a rustic, nearly like a dated cabin at the beach type feel, with older furnishings and carpets. Hopefully the photos included give you a general understanding for what I am describing.
The benefits offered by this resort are the overall amenities, including one of the biggest outdoor pool areas on OBX. Next to the pool area there is an onsite Sea Glass Snack Shack serving stuff like burgers and hot dogs, beverages, and water ice.
This property is definitely one of the most unique on OBX, with direct access to the both the Beach and the Sound, and in very close proximity to the many stores and eateries in the Town of Duck. You also benefit from these spacious units being priced lower than comparable options of the same size in the area.
Many families appreciate their annual vacations at this property, however if you are a traveler that requires more extravagant accommodations, this may not be the right choice for you, and you might want to consider one of the more expensive listings on AirBnB.
I am not trying to sound negative, because personally we enjoy this property, I just want to make sure your expectations match reality. So if you have any specific questions on this please don't hesitate to ask.
GUEST ACCESS
Your unit is private, but since this is a huge Resort property, Conveniences will be shared with other guests (Pools, Beach, Outdoor Games, etc).
OTHER THINGS TO NOTE
- Primary Guest checking in must be at least 21 years of age with a valid ID and credit card for security deposit. If a security deposit is required, it will be returned to you after Check Out if you have not made any charges to your room.
- Barrier Island Station – Duck is professionally managed and operated by Vacation Resorts International (VRI). The Front Desk is staffed for Check-In, Check-Out, and is available for any questions, issues, or need for assistance during your stay.
- Check In time is 4:00pm and check out time is 10:00am. Please check with the resort Front Desk for any possibility of earlier unit availability and / or early use of the resort amenities during check-in days.
- Late Check In: The Front Desk / Office is open from 8am to 7pm. If you arrive after those hours you can go to the Security office and get access to your unit. Then the following morning you will need to go to the office by 11am to get officially signed in and receive your parking passes, information, etc.
- Please note that once you Check In and get access to your unit, if you encounter any issues or concerns regarding Housekeeping, Maintenance, etc…please contact the Front Desk / Office IMMEDIATELY. The staff members on-site provide the best opportunity to get any concerns resolved in the fastest and most efficient manner.
- Three COMPLIMENTARY parking passes are included with this unit, which you will receive from the Front Desk at Check In. If you need parking for an additional car you can arrange this directly with the Front Desk.
- Linens linens, including blankets, sheets, and pillows are included. However, if have you have any favorites blankets or pillows, or if you sleep better using a certain type of pillow, it would be good to bring your own.
- Please especially take note of the detail above about bed coverings. BIS-Duck provides Blankets but does NOT provide the heavier, bulkier Comforters that you may have on your bed at home. The Blankets on the beds should be fine for most families, but you could bring an additional Blanket or Comforter if you have any concerns about that.
- If you plan on using the Sleeper couches during your stay, I definitely recommend bringing your own sheets, pillows, and blankets, maybe even a bed pad for the Sleeper couch specifically, which can be turned into a very comfortable additional bed. Also plan accordingly if your unit has multiple sleeper couches (bringing 2 sets of sheets, pillows, blankets, etc).
- Bath and Hand towels are supplied for you and will be inside your unit when you arrive.
- There is no daily housekeeping supplied. However your unit does have it's own Washer / Dryer in the unit that is for your use only. If additional housekeeping is desired during your stay it is available for an additional fee scheduled directly with the resort Front Desk.
- Each Unit will receive a "Starter Package" at Check In. Your unit will have basic supplies like toilet paper, paper towels, detergent, etc to get you thru the first day or two of your stay. I recommend you definitely be prepared for this by bringing your own supplies in these categories based on what you feel you will need for the week (especially if there are specific brands you favor).
- Pool / Beach towels are not supplied. Each family should bring their own pool / beach towels
- You should bring your own Beach Chairs / Beach Blankets / Umbrellas / Coolers / Equipment you want to use on the beach. If you don’t bring your own stuff, you are able to rent Beach chairs / Umbrellas in the Town of Duck, or during most summer weeks on the beach out in front of the facility.
- If you or any members of your family enjoy bicycle riding, I strongly recommend taking your own bicycles (if you have the means to do so). Bikes are a great way to move around the resort, and also ride into the Town of Duck. Bicycle units in Duck are available if you don't bring your own. Remember to take your bicycle locks to lock up your bicycles at the bicycle rack each nighttime.
- If you are interested in fishing while on vacation, there is Surf fishing out in front of the resort on the beach, or pier fishing from one of the piers on OBX.
- Family Animals are not allowed anywhere on or in the Resort property.

Strategies to get the perfect Kitty Hawk vacation home experience:
Finding your perfect rental:
- To find the most suitable rental within your budget, we suggest booking in the Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at popular Kitty Hawk attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Kitty Hawk vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- In the Kitty Hawk area, The sooner you can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are booked early. Reserving your rental up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your rental home.
- Owners sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your family.
- Property management companies often offer renters an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
- Find a copy of your local Kitty Hawk visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, travel guide magazines have money saving offers on local tours, shops, and attractions.
Selecting and booking the best Kitty Hawk rental home:
- Begin by choosing the best vacation week and a spending budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration your group requires. BIS-Duck Resort - 3BR/2BA - Great Pools and Beach! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Kitty Hawk vacation rental search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, email the property owner before reserving the vacation property. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- Are you visiting for a single attraction? Try a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- Some rentals allow pets, and others don't. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the property management company about pet restrictions before booking.
More tips for your visit:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the instructions to your smartphone.
- Document any damages to the property during check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, stereo or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent a lot of difficulties.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all personal belongings. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property managers rely on great reviews to drive more reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will will be grateful for your review find their best rental home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
