Tips and Tricks for getting the best Kitty Hawk vacation property experience:
When to reserve a Kitty Hawk rental & When to go:
- The sooner your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best properties are reserved very early. Booking your rental property six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
- Summertime is the most expensive season along the coast of NC. Reserve your rental property in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
- Hosts sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers frequently offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guide magazines have money saving offers on local accommodations, tours and attractions.
Filter your rental search:
- Select your vacation week and budget.
- Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your group needs. NanDUCKet on the bay in DUCK, NC! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally accessible on booking pages. If not, reach out to the property manager before you book your home. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to determine what configuration is right for your vacation group.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you will need a property that allows animals. Get specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Be aware that some hosts charge additional pet fees.
- Are you looking for unique amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental home.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
More tips for your visit:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, television set or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent many difficulties.
- Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are gone, just like you would at home.
- To make certain that no damages are linked to your visit, make note of any problem areas during arrival. Contact the host right away to record your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often times, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Just before checking out, complete a walk-through to confirm you did not forget any personal items. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did you have a fantastic stay? Most rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
