Our top Kitty Hawk rental home booking tips:
When to book a Kitty Hawk rental home & When to go:
- To get the largest rental for your budget, we highly recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at the beach and popular Kitty Hawk attractions. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Kitty Hawk vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some hosts and property managers offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guide magazines contain money saving offers on local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Filter your rental search:
- First and foremost, have your family choose dates and a max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. The Duck Social has 7 bedrooms and 8 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, call the property owner before reserving your rental. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to work out what is best for your vacation group.
- If there's a certain Kitty Hawk beach you simply love, browse properties that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, filter your search for a property that allows animals. Make sure to ask for details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
During your stay:
- Put the host's information in your smartphone.
- During arrival, make note of any damages to the property and immediately alert the owner. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents lots of concerns.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be a great resource to find the best local beaches and hangouts.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Keep your rental home locked while you are away! Don't let crooks spoil your family vacation.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all of your things. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the host is not available, ensure that you take photos of the property to record its condition.
- Leave a review! Property owners rely on good feedback to drive more reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
