Tips and Tricks to get the best vacation rental experience:

Get the best value:

  • To find the largest vacation home within your budget, we suggest reserving in the Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite Kitty Hawk restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer.
  • Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Booking websites often offer renters an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Many management companies supply Kitty Hawk area visitors guides which will include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Kitty Hawk visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • Start by having your group commit to trip dates and a budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. \"Can't You Sea\" Semi-Oceanfront, Steps away from the Ocean, 4br, Family Cottage has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly accessible on booking websites. If not, email the property management company before you book your rental. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • Visiting for a single event? Use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. .
  • If your group is traveling with pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly rental. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.

Tips to have a smooth stay:

  • Get the property manager's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home.
  • Upon arrival, record any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often a terrific resource to find the best local beaches and restaurants.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Protect the property owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are away, just like you would back home.
  • On check-out day, complete a final walk-through to confirm you haven't forget any personal items. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your family have a great time? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental and/or property management company was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
