Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect vacation rental experience:
Find your perfect rental home:
- In the Kitty Hawk area, The sooner you can book, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved early. Booking your vacation rental six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. To find the largest rental within budget, we strongly suggest booking in Fall or Spring months. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities.
- Property managers sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
- Property managers usually offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
- Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Kitty Hawk area visitor guides which often include special offers, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Kitty Hawk area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

- First and foremost, have your family choose dates and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration your family needs. Family Friendly Resort Condo - Great Outer Banks Location, Cozy, Lots Of Activities has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is almost always accessible online. If not, reach out to the property management company before reserving the vacation home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to establish what bed configuration is suitable for your vacation family.
- If your group is traveling with pets, search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
- If there's a certain Kitty Hawk beach you long to visit, look for homes that are either near by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking
Know before you go:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents a lot of difficulties.
- Lock your rental while you are out. Keep your property safe!
- Make a record of any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately send them to the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be beneficial if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- On check-out day, take a final walk-through to confirm you haven't leave anything behind. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property a final time and scan for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the host is not available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Hosts rely on good reviews to compel more bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
