Our top Vacation rental home tips and tricks:

Cost saving strategies:

  • June, July, and August are high season in Kitty Hawk. To find the best value, change your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer great weather, , and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Kitty Hawk vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • In the Kitty Hawk area, The earlier you can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are booked early. Booking your rental up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your rental property.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Property management companies usually offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Many property management companies supply Kitty Hawk area visitors guides which often include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Kitty Hawk area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Planning and picking the best Kitty Hawk vacation home:

  • Choose a group leader, select your trip dates, and select a max budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. K1560 Carolina Cottage, Hot Tub, Pool Table, Pets OK has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available on booking websites. If not, call the property manager before you book your rental. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches. You'll need to establish what is best for your vacation family.
  • Visiting for a specific attraction? Try a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Additional fees or charges applied to your invoice.

More tips for your stay:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the instructions to your phone.
  • Record any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be helpful if there is a dispute.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a fantastic resource to find the best local scenic spots.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Keep the property locked while you are gone! Don't let burglars ruin your vacation.
  • Just before checking out, take a final walk-through to confirm you have not forget anything. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a terrific stay? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
