Tips to get the perfect Kitty Hawk vacation home experience:
How to get the best rental value:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. Book your Kitty Hawk rental property in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer.
- In the Kitty Hawk area, The earlier you can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are booked very early. Reserving your vacation rental up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Property managers often offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
- Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Kitty Hawk area travel guide magazines which often include special offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Kitty Hawk visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Narrow your rental Search:
- Begin by choosing vacation dates and a spending budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. NEW! Salty Sally's - Walk to the beach! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Kitty Hawk vacation rental search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly available on booking websites. If they are not listed, email the property manager before you book your home. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction? Try a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- If your group is bringing pets, you must book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for information on breed, size, and type requirements. Note that some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
Some things to know before you go:
- Be sure you get the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property.
- To make certain damages are not attributed to your family's visit, inspect the rental for any problem areas upon your arrival. Contact the rental manager right away to relay any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent many difficulties.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often a fantastic resource to find the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all belongings. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition.
- Did your family have a wonderful vacation? Many rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
