Vacation rental booking tips and tricks:

Get the most from your spending budget:

  • Summer is the most expensive season in coastal NC. To find the best value, try changing your vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer pleasant temperatures, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Kitty Hawk vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your group qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Property management companies usually offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Look for your local Kitty Hawk area magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines contain offers and deals for local accommodations and attractions.

Make a plan and pick yourrental home:

  • Choose a designated group leader, choose your vacation dates, and choose a max budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. The SeaPointe - Southern Shores Private Oasis has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property management company before booking the rental. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • Visiting for a specific event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to search for a property that allows animals. Request specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Usually, property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.

Have a fantastic stay:

  • Take a copy of the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property.
  • To make certain damages are not linked to your stay, note any problem areas upon your arrival. Get in touch with the host immediately to report any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors disrupting your peace. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have not otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • Upon check-out, complete a final walk-through to make sure you have not forget anything. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on excellent ratings to compel new reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
