Tricks and tips to get the perfect Kitty Hawk rental experience:
Getting the most from your rental budget:
- Summer months are high season in the Kitty Hawk area. Booking your Kitty Hawk vacation rental in Fall or Spring months is a great way to save money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
- In the Kitty Hawk area, The earlier your group can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are booked early. Booking your rental home up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
- Some hosts offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Booking websites typically offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
- Look for your local Kitty Hawk visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guide magazines contain money saving offers on local restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Choosing and booking the perfectvacation home:
- Select your vacation week and budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Walk to the beach, shops and resturants! has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is almost always available online. If not, email or call the property owner before reserving the home. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to work out what configuration is optimal for your group.
- Is your group looking for specific amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available before booking
- Some rental properties allow pets, but some do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask your host about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
Have a wonderful stay:
- Get the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental. Put the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- To make sure that damages are not attributed to your family's visit, inspect for any problem areas upon check in. Speak to the host immediately to record any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be useful.
- Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often a terrific resource to find the best local beaches.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are away, just like you would at home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to confirm you've collected everything. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did you have a terrific time? Most rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
