Our top Kitty Hawk rental booking tips:
Finding your perfect vacation home:
- Summertime is the most expensive season in Kitty Hawk. To find the best value, consider shifting your vacation dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer pleasant temperatures, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your family qualifies for a price reduction.
- Property management companies usually offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Kitty Hawk area visitor guides which often include special offers, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Kitty Hawk area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
How to choose the perfect rental in the Kitty Hawk area:
- Choose a group leader, choose your dates, and select a budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration your group needs. The Seagull's Nest: Away from the Maddening Crowd! has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Kitty Hawk vacation rental search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally available on booking pages. Otherwise, email or call the property manager before you book your rental. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to work out what is optimal for your group.
- Are you visiting for a single event or attraction? Use a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental.
- Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Pet fees or costs could be applied to your contract.
More considerations for your visit:
- Put the owner's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Note any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be useful if a dispute arises.
- Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be respectful. Often, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are away, just like you would at home.
- Just before checking out, take a final walk-through to make sure you haven't leave anything behind. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your group have a great vacation? Most rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
