The space
COVID-19 Friendly - Separate Entrance, Routine cleaning & Sanitized Space! This 1200 square feet home is a combination of mostly re-purposed wood from numerous homes, that have been torn down to make room for bigger beach homes. It has a exceptional beachy feel to it, and though it has a modest footprint the feeling is cavernous. Includes a fireplace to take the chill off.
The WIE House is SO very unique it made it into the 2016 OBX Parade of Homes...learn more about the amenities and layouts by Googling "Parade of Homes OBX 2016" and go to House #11 !
Look forward to having you to one of the most unique properties you will ever stay in!!!!
Guest access
You will have the whole main home to yourself and your guests, including GOURMET Kitchen with a drip-style coffee maker!
You will also have access to the sound (weather permitting) and a tandem kayak. (The kayak is available on a first-come first-serve basis as it can be used by any guests staying at the WIE Village.)
Other things to note
This is a handsome waterfront location, and it may change your attitude for ever. Below is the story behind the WIE Village !
With green building in mind, we look to reuse and re-purpose materials that are left over from building huge homes to create The WIE House. The first WIE House location is in an environmentally critical area, The Outer Banks (OBX) of North Carolina.

This concept is not unique to the OBX, as we would like to see it grow to any location where there are leftover materials on the job-site. Whether it be a remodel job or new construction, the benefits to this project are the use of leftover building materials, resulting in less forest destruction, filling of landfills, all while cutting expenses for all involved!

The WIE House is modest in physical size, but big in quality of living. The WIE House is constructed to be as maintenance-complimentary, and as energy-efficient as possible; including environmentally friendly items such as, metal roofs, rain water wine barrels to water landscaping, passive solar energy to maintain all exterior lighting, and all permeable walkways to prevent runoff to name a few!

A walkway will wind you up to the home that sits atop a hill and because lot clearing is kept to a minimum no driving of cars allowed on the lot.

Another goal of The WIE House concept is for local municipalities to get on board and see the value of higher density homes on property as opposed to the single Mega-Home!

The first WIE House was constructed on a lot owned by Jim Douglas on the Roanoke Sound, bordering the Kitty Hawk Maritime Forest became available for rent during Spring 2017.

Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect Kitty Hawk vacation home experience:

When to reserve a Kitty Hawk rental & When to go:

  • Book your Kitty Hawk rental property in the Spring or Fall to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
  • The sooner you can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved very early. Reserving your rental home six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your group qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Booking websites typically offer customers an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local Kitty Hawk visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guide magazines contain deals for nearby tours and attractions.

Planning, picking, and booking the perfect Kitty Hawk rental home:

  • Choose your vacation dates and spending budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the configuration your group requires. Waterfront Treasure - Main WIE House has 2 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available online. Otherwise, reach out to the property management company before you book the home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • If there's a certain Kitty Hawk destination you love, keep an eye out for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly property. Request specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property owners charge additional pet fees.

Have a great stay:

  • Add the owner's phone number to your phone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • To make certain that no damages are attributed to your family's visit, inspect for any problem areas upon check in. Make contact with the host right away to document any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent quite a few difficulties.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a fantastic source for finding the best local beaches and hangouts.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Lock your vacation home while you're out and about. Keep your property safe!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all of your things. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on excellent ratings to propel new bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will be thankful you shared your review find their best vacation rental. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
