Tips and Tricks to get the best rental experience:

When to visit & When to book:

  • Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summertime is high season in Kitty Hawk. To get the largest rental home within your budget, we recommend reserving in Fall or Spring months. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at the beach and popular Kitty Hawk attractions. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
  • Hosts sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group.
  • Property management companies typically offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Look for your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guides contain discounts for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Begin by choosing your potential vacation weeks and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your family needs. Marsh Cottage has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is often available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email the property management company before booking the rental. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to work out what is optimal for your vacation group.
  • If your group is bringing pets, search for a rental that allows animals. Request information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Be aware that some property managers charge additional pet fees.
  • Visiting for a specific event? Use a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .

During your stay:

  • Add the property manager's contact information to your phone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, television set or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent many concerns.
  • Lock your rental property while you are gone! Don't let crooks ruin your holiday.
  • To ensure that damages aren't attributed to your visit, inspect for any problem areas when you arrive. message the host right away to report any damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Respect your neighbors. Frequently, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the property to make sure you've collected all personal belongings. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did you have a wonderful time? Most rental managers make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
