You'll adore this Vintage Beach Cottage in historic Kitty Hawk Village. This backyard guest home is a restored antique barn, w/view of adjacent meadow. Full of vintage-beach appeal, the bungalow is complete w/refinished antique furnishings & salvaged doors from one of Kitty Hawk's original homes. You'll appreciate its coziness, lawn & gardens, private outdoor deck w/ grille & prime location. Less than a mile to beach, bay & canals; w/use of bicycles, body boards & double kayak!
The space
The Vintage Beach Cottage is a marriage of beach-country. Located in the heart of historic Kitty Hawk Village, the bungalow is in a peaceful and roomy setting, and yet is less than a mile to the beach and sound. Recently entirely restored with vintage charm and decor (& queen-size memory foam bed). The space is ideal for accommodating two guests. However, if you'd don't mind being comfortable, there is room for an additional infant or kid. We have a cot and a playpen to meet this need.
Guest access
The Vintage Beach Cottage is a detached, private building located in the backyard of our private residence. You will have access to park in the front of our home and walk around back to the guest quarters.
Other things to note
You will also have use of the enormous backyard with your own private deck with seating and a grille. It’s a calming space and the star-gazing at nighttime is impressive back there! Since the beach and sound are both a short bicycle ride away, you will have access to bicycles, body boards and a double kayak.

How to find the best Kitty Hawk vacation rental experience:
Sticking to your budget:
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Booking your vacation home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is our favorite way to save money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Kitty Hawk vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your family.
- Booking websites frequently offer renters an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Kitty Hawk area visitor guides which often include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Choosing the best rental in the Kitty Hawk area:
- First and foremost, have your group commit to trip dates and a budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration your family needs. Vintage Beach Cottage (Outer Banks, NC) has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Kitty Hawk rental home search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is normally available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, contact the property management company before reserving the rental. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or may be applied to your agreement.
- Are you visiting for a specific event? Use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking
More tips for your stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the instructions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent quite a few difficulties.
- Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Document any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are valuable if a dispute is filed.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are an excellent resource to find the best local attractions.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- On check-out day, take a final walk-through to make sure you have not forget any personal items. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Leave feedback! Property managers rely on great feedback to inspire future reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
