Tricks and tips for getting the best Kitty Hawk rental home experience:
Find your perfect rental home:
- To get the best value, try shifting your group's trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer warmer weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Kitty Hawk vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- The earlier you can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are booked very early. Reserving your rental home up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Property managers typically offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
- Look for your local Kitty Hawk area magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guide magazines have deals for local tours, shops, and attractions.
Selecting and booking the perfect Kitty Hawk rental:
- Start by choosing the best vacation week and a budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Saltaire Cottages1: 1BR 1BA Steps to Private Beach Access Pool! has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Kitty Hawk vacation rental search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is often accessible online. Otherwise, contact the property management company before you book the vacation property. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to determine what configuration is optimal for your vacation group.
- Are you looking for unique amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Pet fees or charges might be applied to your invoice.
During your stay:
- Be sure you get the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property. Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- To make certain damages aren't attributed to your stay, make a record of any problem areas upon your arrival. Call the property manager immediately to record your findings. If there is a dispute, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers disrupting your life at home. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and attractions you would've not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are out, just like you would back home.
- Double-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at departure. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental a final time and look for damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take photos of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a great time? Most rental websites make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
