How to book the best vacation home experience:
How to get the best value:
- Summertime is high season in Kitty Hawk. Booking a rental in Fall or Spring months is a great way to save money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Kitty Hawk vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer renters an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Kitty Hawk visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guides contain deals for nearby tours and attractions.
Narrow your rental Search:
- Choose your vacation week and maximum budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. K1716 The Sandbar. New Construction Paradise; Semi Oceanfront; Private Pool has 6 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is regularly available on booking pages. If they are not listed, call the host before you reserve the property. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- If there's an individual Kitty Hawk beach you love, keep an eye out for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater to your desires.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
- If your group is traveling with pets, you must book a property that allows animals. Get specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Be aware that some property managers charge additional pet fees.
Have a wonderful stay:
- Get the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental.
- During arrival, note any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Record all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, elevator or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent a lot of problems.
- Respect your neighbors. Frequently, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are out, just like you would back home.
- At departure, take a walk-through to confirm you didn't forget anything. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your group have a fantastic time? Many rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
