Tips and Tricks to get the perfect rental home experience:
Sticking to a spending plan:
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. Book your rental property in the Fall or Spring to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- Some property managers offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your group.
- Property managers usually offer guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Many property management companies supply Kitty Hawk area travel guides which include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Kitty Hawk visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Selecting and booking your prefect Kitty Hawk rental home:
- To start, have your group commit to vacation dates and a spending budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Sea Dunes condo with community pool and tennis, beach access, porch swing, baby gate, and WiFi has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed types is almost always accessible on booking pages. If not, reach out to the host before you book the vacation home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional pet fees or may be applied to your agreement.
- If there's a particular Kitty Hawk attraction you are crazy about, keep an eye out for homes that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
Know before you go:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Add a note with the instructions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Keep the property locked while you're out! Don't let burglars spoil your vacation.
- Record any issues with the property during check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are beneficial if a dispute arises.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often times, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Double-check the rental property to make sure that you've packed everything at check-out. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the property one final time and look for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a fantastic stay? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
