Tricks and tips to get the very best rental home experience:
How to get the best value:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. Booking in the Fall or Spring is our favorite way to save money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Kitty Hawk vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some hosts offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if discounts are available for your group.
- Property managers usually offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
- Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Kitty Hawk area travel guides which often include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Kitty Hawk area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Choosing and booking a perfectrental home:
- First and foremost, have your family decide on a vacation week and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your group requires. Oceanside condo conveniently located near several Kitty Hawk hot spots! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed types is generally available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email the property manager before you book the rental. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to establish what is optimal for your trip.
- If there's a specific Kitty Hawk attraction you long to visit, browse properties that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. .
- If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to search for a rental that allows animals. Make sure to ask for details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property owners charge additional pet fees.
Have a wonderful stay:
- Be sure you get the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property.
- At Check-in, record any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents quite a few issues.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Frequently, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Keep the property locked while you're gone! Don't let thieves spoil your trip.
- Double-check the property to make sure that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental one final time and look for damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property managers rely on excellent reviews to stimulate more bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
