Sunshine is an refreshed Carolina beach bungalow designed for modest families and couples who adore an simple going beach experience with decks that follow the sun, hammocks for naps, games and puzzles, and a lower level hideaway with Foosball, electronic games, card table, and a big screen for movies or special ball games. It has a completely equipped kitchen plus a kitchenette in lower level. Besides the two hammocks, guests will appreciate a swing on the back porch or a swing out front on your way back from the beach.
Our street is a peaceful street between the Beach Rd and the Rt. 158. It is ideal for jogs, walks, cycling, and late evening strolls. Beach access is a short distance to your left out of the driveway to the Lillian Street access. It has a marvelous platform deck where you can savor handsome sunrises with your coffee and or late evening moonlight ocean view. The second beach access is to your right at driveway with access over the dune at Starfish. Time to the beach is a four min. walk, that is once you get the gang organized to go!
Sunshine is our family beach home which has been shared with a few friends and family over the years. It has not been a rental program. I am placing it on Vacation Rental By Owner because, as much as I would like, I can’t run away and live there, so I am making a limited number of weeks available for rental. There are not reviews available because there is not a rental history. If you would like to ask me questions to feel more comfortable with the rental, call me anytime.
We strive to maintain it well. It is not a “rental machine” so our goal is that our guests will find it in good order and clean upon arrival. I have my own housekeeper. Your linens, including beach towels, are included and will be there shrink wrapped in a rubber tub upon your arrival.
The laundry is located on the lower level adjacent to the outside shower. There is a full size washer and dryer with folding table. I keep some beach chairs , body boards, etc in the laundry but the inventory varies as the summer progresses.
There is a enormous outdoor shower. There is a charcoal grille and picnic table in the backyard for your use. The yard is naturalized which means going barefoot is not an option in the yard. We are close enough to the Atlantic that at times of serious weather, the ocean will breech the dune line and make it to our yard!
Ocean vistas are available from the second and third level decks and I have supplied photos of the view. There is one home behind Sunshine between us and the Beach Rd and ocean. All of the homes on the ocean in our block were lost to hurricanes and nor’easters years ago!
It is located roughly 3.5miles south after you cross the bridge to OBX. You are located close to the north beaches including Duck, Corolla, and the wild horses. To the south, you will find the south beaches, Hatteras and Ocracoke. Those islands can be a great day trip. Fishing piers, groceries, and great eateries and bars are near buy. Grocery supplies are readily available so need to pack in groceries- just your special ingredients. Choose from Food Lion, Publix, Harris Teeter or Super Walmart. I have a board in the hall with some notes and menus of local eateries. Feel complimentary to add a comment.
My goal is to provide my home to families and friends who want an painless week of calming beach time in a clean and comfortable environment. I am happy to answer your questions about Sunshine or the Outer Banks.
My biggest update this year is the finished lower level providing my guests with game room, two twin day beds, kitchenette, and a den area. It’s the ideal get away area to play games, watch the big game on tv, or just hide out!

This vacation home is located in Kitty Hawk. Children at Play Museum and Paradise Fun Park are worth checking out if an activity is on the agenda, while those wishing to experience the area's natural beauty can explore Outer Banks Beaches and Nags Head Woods Preserve. Getting the best value:

  • Summertime is high season in Kitty Hawk. To find the best value, consider shifting your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warm weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Kitty Hawk vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special rate.
